10 Delhi Tourists Arrested for Dancing, Playing Loud Music and Obstructing Traffic inside Atal Tunnel

Ten tourists have been arrested by the Himachal Pradesh Police for dancing, playing loud music and obstructing traffic inside Atal Tunnel in Rohtang. The Himachal Pradesh Police has also seized three vehicles for violating traffic rules inside the Atal Tunnel.

The Atal Rohtang Tunnel is an important tunnel from strategic and security point of view as it provides year-long connectivity to the border areas. This tunnel is used for supply of arms and logistics for Indian Army troops deployed in Ladakh.

“Today more than 5450 vehicles crossed Atal Tunnel at both ends. Till Date,25 tourists have been arrested for obstructing traffic in Tunnel & 10 of them fined Rs 50000/-. Pl cherish Sweet Memories of the Historic Tunnel & The Picturesque Valleys ,NOT such Bitter experiences,” Kullu Policed said on Sunday.

The tourists stopped their vehicles inside the tunnel, played loud music and started dancing which led to a traffic jam on Thursday, Kullu Police said.

According to Times of India report, the arrested tourists have been identified as Simran Singh (25), Ritik Goyal (20), Harpreet Singh (21), Raveen Mangal (19), Shivam Singal (19), Rishav Gupta (19) and Sandeep (37), all residents of Narela, Delhi.

Atal Tunnel, built under the Rohtang Pass is the longest high-altitude road tunnel in the world. The Atal Tunnel connects Manali to Lahaul-Spiti valley. It reduces the distance between Manali and Leh in Union Territory of Ladakh by 46 kilometres. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 3, 2019.
