The Ministry of Defence Ministry has decided to deploy five columns of Indian Army for relief works in West Bengal. The West Bengal govt on Saturday requested the central govt to deploy Army to restore infrastructure in state capital Kolkata. Each Column has 35 Army personnel including officer and JCOs.
“Government of West Bengal mobilizes maximum strength in unified command mode on 24×7 basis for immediate restoration of essential infrastructure and services asap. Army support has been called for;NDRF and SDRF teams deployed; Railways,Port & private sector too requested to supply teams and equipment,” HOME DEPARTMENT – GOVT. OF WEST BENGAL said in its statement.
“Based on the request from the Government of West Bengal, the Indian Army has provided five columns to assist the Kolkata City Civil Administration in the aftermath of Cyclone Amphan,” Indian Army said in its statement.
Total 175 Army personnel deployed with road and tree clearance equipment in Tollygunge, Ballygunge, Rajarhat/NewTown, Diamond Harbour & Behala to restore infrastructure in Kolkata.
