What is Agusta Westland Scam:
In 2010, the agreement was signed between the Anglo-Italian company Agusta-Westland and the Indian Government to buy 12 VVIP helicopters for the IAF. In January 2014, the Indian government canceled the contract of 3600 crores. It was alleged that a commission of 360 crore rupees was taken. After this, the government had banned the supply of 12 AW-101 VVIP helicopters to the Indian Air Force in February 2013.At the time the order was issued, India had paid 30% and the next three other helicopters’ payment were undergoing.
The case went to Italy’s court, in which it was revealed that the company had given a bribe of upto Rs 100-125 crore to the Indian officials to get a $ 53 million contract. The name of former IAF chief SP Tyagi was also mentioned in the Italian court’s decision.
