Bharat Ratna for Pranab Mukherjee, Nanaji Deshmukh & Bhupen Hazarika

The Indian government has decided to give Bharat Ratna to former President Pranab Mukherjee, Nanaji Deshmukh and composer Bhupen Hazarika. Nanaji Deshmukh and Bhupen Hazarik are being honored posthumously. Bharat Ratna is the highest civilian honour of the country, which is given for extraordinary national service.

Who is Bhupen Hazarika?

Bhupen Hazarika was a songwriter of Assam, composer, singer, poet and film producer. He presented the culture and folk music of Assam and Northeastern India through the Hindi cinema at the national level. Bhupen Hazarika was conferred the National Film Award for Best Music Direction in 1975, Sangeet Natak Academy Award (1987), Padmashree (1977), and Padmabhushan (2001).
