A Jawan of the Border Security Force (BSF) has been arrested on charges of anti-national activities including smuggling of arms and drugs. The accused has been identified as Sumit Kumar, who was a resident of Gurdaspur. Punjab Police has seized a foreign-made pistol, 82 cartridges and 3 mobile phones from the accused.
A drug smuggler who had already arrested the Punjab Police gave a clue about this BSF jawan. Sumit, a BSF jawan of 173 battalion, was presently posted at Mangu Chak Border Outpost. He was arrested from Samba, Jammu. DIG Gurdaspur Rajesh Sharma has confirmed the arrest of BSF jawan.
Police sources said Sumit was using Internet calling to contact his handlers in Pakistan. He told that the accused used to hide the consignment of weapons and narcotics at night and then courier him. The pistol recovered by the police from the possession of the accused is of Turkish.
Investigation has revealed that the accused Sumit Kumar has a tainted record and he was also facing a case of attempt to murder. A case was registered against him under Dorangla police station three years ago. He was currently residing in the Sarna area of Pathankot. Sumit is currently in the custody of Punjab Police.
