Chandrayaan-2 will be headed by two women scientists

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has declared the date of launch of Chandryaan2. Chandrayaan 2 will be flagged off from Sriharikota on July 22 at 2.43 pm. Its weight is 3.8 tons. Total expenditure of this mission is approx Rs. 1000 crores.

This Project is special because the command of this mission is in the hand of two women. The name of the two women scientists are M. Vanitha & Ritu Karidhal. Ritu Karidhar is the Mission director & M. Vanitha is the project director of Chandrayaan-2. Earlier, 8 women had played major roles in ISRO’s Mars mission.

Dr K Sivan, Chairman of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) said that in ISRO, we do not understand the difference between male and female scientists. There is no gender discrimination here. Whoever is competent gets a chance to do the best thing. Dr. K Sivan said that the entire team of ISRO is working in Chandrayaan-2 but 30% of it is female scientist.

Women’s power has been a major contributor to successfully completing many ISRO missions. M. Vanitha is the Project Director of Chandryaan-2 mission. She is the first woman scientist to work on this level in ISRO. M. Vanitha was awarded as best scientist award in 2006 when she was working a desing engineer in ISRO.

Ritu Karidhal is known as the “Rocket woman of India.” She is the mission Director of Chandrayaan-2. She was a Deputy Operations Director to India’s Mars orbital mission, Mangalyaan. She was born and brought up in Lucknow and is an aerospace engineer. she cracked the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and proceeded to IISc, Bengaluru, to do her masters in aerospace engineering.
