China snubs Pakistan, calls Kashmir is a bilateral issue

From opposing the Kashmir move of Indian govt to invoking UN resolution in the matter, China has now changed its position on Kashmir issue. China has agreed with India’s position on Kashmir that Kashmir issue is a bilateral matter between India and Pakistan.

In fact, China had said in the UNGA (United Nations General Assembly) that the issue of Jammu and Kashmir should be resolved under the UN Charter. But now China has shocked Pakistan. China says that both countries should resolve this issue through bilateral negotiations.

Chinese foreign ministry’s spokesperson Geng Shuang said that China’s policy on Jammu and Kashmir is clear. India and Pakistan need to resolve this issue jointly through mutual dialogue and understanding. If both the countries (India and Pakistan) reach any meaningful conclusion on this issue, then it will be better for their common interests and at the same time it will be good for the international society.

China also said that it is true that the matter of border dispute between the two countries(India & Pakistan) is pending. But China think that both countries should maintain peace along the border till a permanent solution is found to this issue. Both countries are neighbors of each other, both countries have a large territory. Along with this, China and India are emerging economies. In such a situation, the two countries can come closer to each other through trade.

After the removal of Article 370 from state of Jammu & Kashmir on 5 August, Pakistan asked help from China. China held a close door meeting of the UN where all the P5 countries supported India except China. According to experts, This meeting had no meaning. After this, China said in UNGA that the issue of Jammu and Kashmir should be resolved according to the charter. But now china has taken totally a U-turn on the kashmir issue.
