G Satheesh Reddy, The chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has said that India must focus on more indigenous defence production than importing from other countries.
According to Economic Times report, G Satheesh Reddy said on Saturday said, “We should become self reliant in defence technology and manufacturing to reduce the imports from other countries”.
DRDO chief claimed, Indigenous production in defence sector is currently 45%-50% only while we imports 50-55% defence related requirement from other countries. We should make India self reliant in defence production and manufacturing and export defence technology to other countries to enable the domestic defence industry to sustain itself and earn foreign exchange.
DRDO chief G Satheesh Reddy has also served as a secretary for Research & Development (R&D) in the Department of Defence. He said that DRDO will produce world’s best fighter Aircraft in next ten years while talking about the India’s LCA program . He said this during 6th convocation of the National Institute of Technology, Meghalaya.
“We have developed high precision missile in last few years and we are now in the league of USA, Russia and China in developing high precision missiles,” said DRDO Chief.
