Former IPS officer K Vijay Kumar has been appointed as the new senior Security Advisor by Union Home Minister Amit Shah . He will look into matters related to Jammu and Kashmir and Left Wing Extremism. He has been appointed for a year.

Earlier, K Vijay Kumar was an advisor to Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik. Significantly, it was during the tenure of Governor Malik that the Central Government took the bold step to remove Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. After this, Vijay Kumar’s role as advisor to the governor is considered important in maintaining peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
K Vijay Kumar is the same IPS officer who eliminated the famous smuggler Veerappan. He is an officer of 1975 batch of Tamil Nadu Cadre. He is famously known for his Mission Cocoon 2004 which involved the encounter of Veerappan, the operation was led by him.
IPS Vijay Kumar is also famously known for his anti-Naxal skills and has a enormous experience in jungle warfare and security details.
