After abrogation of Article 370 and implementation of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation bill 2019 on 31st October, Government of India has released a new political Map of J&K and Ladakh Union territories.
After this, under the reorganization of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, from October 31, 2019, the J&K divided into two union territories.
Now India has total 28 states and 9 Union territories. Name of 9 union territories are :
- Jammu & Kashmir
- Dadra and Nagar Haveli
- Daman & Diu
- Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Kargil and Leh are two districts in the new Ladakh Union Territory and the remaining part of Jammu and Kashmir State is in the new Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
In 1947, there were 14 districts in the state of Jammu and Kashmir – Kathua, Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Anantnag, Baramulla, Poonch, Mirpur, Muzaffarabad, Leh and Ladakh, Gilgit, Gilgit Wazarat, Chilhas and Tribal Territory.
By 2019, the state government of Jammu and Kashmir had reorganized the areas of these 14 districts into 28 districts. The names of the new districts are Kupwara, Bandipur, Ganderbal, Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Rajouri, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Samba and Kargil.
