How Former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar saved India’s taxpayer Rs 49,300 crores in a Defense Deal

India’s air defence plans regarding the acquisition of the S400 long range missiles, were altered after a timely intervention by then defence minister Manohar Parrikar saved the taxpayer Rs 49,300 crore for the next decade, The Economic Times reported.

According to the report, Manohar Parrikar ordered a review of the 15-year long-term plan to purchase new air defense systems up to 2027.  After the review of Air defense, Manohar Parrikar decide to buy S-400 Air defense system.

S-400 missile can bring down incoming stealth fighters and missiles at range of 380 km. Former Defence Minister manohar Parikkar ordered review of 15 yrs long term plan to purchase new air defence systems upto 2027.

The review, which was recently concluded, involved a technical study by the air force and an evaluation of all air defence systems in the world. The conclusion from the review resulted in the decision to cut down on purchase plans of shorter range missiles, the report added.

On Friday India Signed $5.2 Bn S-400 Air defense system deal with Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin came to Delhi on a two-day visit to participate in the India-Russia Summit . During this, there were  discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s on many important issues. At the same time S-400 missile deal with Russia took place.

The all S-400 Air defense system will be delivered by year 2020.
