Indian Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman’s MiG-21 Bison Squadron has got ‘Falcon Slayers’ and ‘AMRAAM Dodgers’ patches to commemorate the February 27 dogfight in which an aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) was shot down.

- Sukhoi-30 squadron, whose aircraft blunted the Pakistani air attack & successfully evaded the AMRAAM missiles of the PAF F-16s, have named ‘AMRAAM DODGERS’ in new patches.
Officials said that this honor has been given to him for his bravery to shoot down the F-16 aircraft of Pakistan during the Air Conflicts on February 27. In the new straps given to 51 Squadron of Indian Air Force, the red color F-16 is shown with a MiG-21 at the top, where ‘Falcon Slayers’ is in the bottom and ‘Amram Dodgers’ at the top.
This favourite patch of IAF’s squadron is made by a 21 years old student Saurav Chordia of Basugaon in Assam who is a political science graduate. He works as a graphics designer in New Delhi, has recently designed two patches commemorating the air battle that the IAF fought with the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in February this year.
Sourav has already designed more than a hundred patches for the IAF. He began to design these type of things from his eighteen. He was happy to design the patches without any payment but now receives a small stipend, usually less than Rs. 20,000 from the individual funds of the Squadrons that approach him.
The Indian Air Force had failed the Pakistani Air attack and during the conflict, Wg Cdr Abhinandan shown the unarmed courage and perseverance by shooting down Pakistan’s F-16 fighter aircraft. Soon after the shooting down of F-16, the Pakistani army had taken Abhinandan into custody. However later they had left him. Abhinandan had become the face of military combat between the two countries. Indian Air Force is recommending Veer Chakra for Abinandan.
