If China crossed border 100 times, India crossed it 200 times: Army vice-chief Lt Gen M.M. Naravane

Designated Army vice-chief Lt Gen M M Naravane said on Tuesday that if Chinese Army crossed “grey zone” at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) 100 times then Indian Army crossed it 200 times, as he was talking about Doklam stand-off.

Lt Gen M M Naravane is currently the General Officer Commanding- in-Chief, Eastern Command and will take over the post of Army vice-chief on 31st August.

Talking about the Chinese threat, Lt Gen M M Naravane said on Tuesday, “the Indian Army is not what it was at the time of the India-China war in 1962.”

“The Doklam standoff gave a clear signal that the Indian Armed forces are no pushovers,” he said during an interaction on ‘Defending our Borders’ at the Bharat Chamber of Commerce here.

Lt Gen M M Naravane also said, “During Doklam standoff, They have maintained their roads, we have also maintained our roads. They have made two new barracks, we have also made two new barracks.”

Former Air Chief Air Marshal Arup Raha asked Lt Gen M M Naravane about the lessons & measures taken by Indian Army after 1962 war then Lt Gen M M Naravane said, “We are no longer the Army of 1962. If China says don’t forget history, we also have to tell them the same thing.”

Talking about the 1962 war, Lt Gen M M Naravane said, “it was political failure not military failure for India as all army units fought well in 1962 war So, I do not see 1962 as a black mark on the Army at all and the armed forces”

Talking about the Doklam standoff, Lt Gen M M Naravane said, “It was China which was caught unprepared in the Dokalam standoff. They thought they would get away by being a regional bully, but we stood up to the bully. It shows that we are capable of taking on any threat.”
