India has three-times more hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) than actual requirement. Currently, India has 3.28 crore tablets of the hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) that will fulfil an entire month’s requirement, said the Union health ministry.
“A lot of requests of HCQ already there and taking into view domestic stock and requirement and keeping sufficient buffer, a decision was taken by GoM to release some of the surplus medicine for export purposes,” Health Ministry said.
“Coming week we will need one crore HCQ tablets for domestic use. We have already 3.28 crore HCQ tablets. This will complete the entire month’s requirement,” Helath Ministry said.
“India leads in production and export of Hydroxychloroquine(HCQ) with 70% of annual global production of its API in the country. Enough stock of API and manufacturing. capacity of HCQ formulations exist to meet country’s requirement as well as export obligations,” Department of Pharmaceuticals said.
