Sitting at the Madurai Bench, Justices N Kirubakaran and SS Sundar passed an interim order to this effect on 3rd April, issuing the following directions:

  • The Government is directed to prohibit downloading of Tik Tok Mobile App.
  • The Media is prohibited from telecasting the videos made using Tik Tok Mobile App.

Madurai Senior Counsel and social worker Muthu Kumar filed the petition against the app.

Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court said that children who are using TikTok are unsafe by exposure to sexual exploiters. The court said that using TikTok due to objectionable content is not free from danger.

Majority of the teens are playing pranks, gaffing around with duet videos sharing with split screen to the strangers. The children who use the said application are vulnerable and may expose them to sexual predators …. Without understanding the dangers involved in these kinds of Mobile Apps., it is unfortunate that our children are testing with these Apps.

Madras HC said that the TikTok is spoiling the mindset and future of youngsters in India.

“… nobody can be pranked or shocked or being made as a subject of mockery by any third party and it would amount to violation of the privacy. It is said that Tik Tok App., is mostly played by the teenagers and young people and it has proved to be an addictive one.

By becoming addicted to Tik Tok App., and similar Apps., or cyber games, the future of the youngsters and mindset of the children are spoiled.“

It is worth mentioning that users can share their short videos with special effects on the TikTok app. There are about 54 million active users per month in India. there are more than 500 millions users all over the world.

There has been much criticism about the TikTok app in America. In the past year, the Indonesian government banned the TikTok after signing an appeal of 1,70,000 people. The Indonesian government said that the TiKTok is not good for the children. However, the Ban was later removed when the officials of the TikTok promised to remove the objectionable content.
