‘Main guest’: Putin invites PM Modi to attend Eastern Economic Forum

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin invited Prime Minister Modi for the Economic Forum. In this event in Russia, PM Modi will be the chief guest. Putin and Modi talked on Monday on the phone. During this time, he invited the Prime Minister of India to come to the Eastern Economic Forum. This program is going to be held in Vladivostok in September 2019. This program is being done to promote Joint Project with Asia-Pacific and trade of the nation. Earlier in 2017, Modi had visited a high-profile economic-themed program in St. Petersburg, Russia.

During the telephonic conversation, both discussed major bilateral and international issues and resolved to increase cooperation to deal with terrorism. Russian diplomatic sources said Putin wished Modi’s success in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

This relationship between Moscow and New Delhi is not new. Russia has very good relations with India since the Soviet era. India buys most weapons from Russia. Despite pressure from USA, India has decided to buy the Russian-made S-400 air defense missile. In November, both countries had finalized the deal to buy a Russia-made missile.

The main thing of this invitation is that Vladimir Putin invites Modi for summit to be held in September this year but Loksabha Election is in May or June. It means that Putin is confident that Modi is getting a second term.
