Mother of jawan killed in Sunjwan attack finds out about his death after body reaches village

Among the six soldiers killed in the Fidayeen attack at the Sunjwan army camp was 32-year-old army Jawan Mohammed Iqbal.

Iqbal hailed from Tral, South Kashmir and had joined the Indian Army 12 years back. He took the decision to join the army after his whole family was isolated in the area due to the presence of militants in Tral. Iqbal hailed from the same village that Hizbul commander Burhan Wani belonged to.

Iqbal proceeded to train and joined JAKLI (Jammu Kashmir Light Infantry) Regiment. A few days back, Iqbal’s father, Gulam Mohiudeen Sheikh left for Sunjwan, Jammu to meet him. Gulam, the sole bread earner of the family, was not aware of his fate.
He became a target for the militants along with his son in Sunjwan army camp attack and died.

His wife, on the other hand, was not informed of her husband and son’s demise. Hajra Begum, 65, who is suffering from a heart disease was kept uninformed of the news as per doctors’ advise.

The doctors told the relatives not to disclose the tragic news to her as she was at a risk of getting a cardiac arrest.

Hajra’s relatives hid the news from her even though she kept on asking about her husband’s whereabouts.

But, when two bodies reached the village of Tral, Hajra Begum sensed something was wrong and finally got to know about the incident. Iqbal’s mother is in a deep shock since then.
