On 18 November 2019, Four Jawans of Indian Army lost their lives due to avalanches at an altitude of 19,000 feet in the northern sector of the Siachen glacier. Total 6 personnel lost their lives in this incident. Among the 6 persons, 2 were civilian porters and four were Indian Army jawans.
Among the 4 jawans, Naik Maninder Singh was one of them. He joined the Indian Army in 2008 at the age of 18. He born on August 24, 1990 and he was just 29 years old. He belonged to Fatehgarh Churiyan village in Gurdaspur district in the state of Punjab, India which is situated near the International border between India & Pakistan.
Naik Maninder Singh’s family has tradition to serve in Indian Army and sacrifice their lives for the nation. His father Sukhdev Singh was in also Indian Army and sacrificed his life for nation in the line of duty. Maninder is survived by his wife, Akwinder Kaur and 5-year-old son, Ekam Jot Singh.
Naik Maninder Singh was a good singer but he chose to serve the nation over his singing career. He joined Indian Army at the age of 18 years.
