Naxalite Kundan Pahan to contest Jharkhand elections

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has allowed Naxalite Kundan Pahan to contest the Jharkhand Assembly elections. NIA’s special court has given conditional permission to Kundan.

On the day of enrollment, the jail management will have the responsibility to process. At the same time, the court asked Kundan to ensure that the general public does not have problems on the day of nomination. He will contest from Tamar assembly seat.

Kundan Pahan, who was jailed for killing Janata Dal (United) MLA Ramesh Singh Munda in Jharkhand, sought permission from the court to contest the assembly elections. Kundan Pahan was shifted from Birsa Munda Central Jail of Hotwar to Hazaribagh Open Jail last month.

Ramesh Singh Munda was killed in 2008 when he was addressing a function at SS High School in Bundu , Jharkhand. Vikas Munda, son of Ramesh Singh Munda and MLA of All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), had then demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder of his father. Vikas Munda also demanded the death penalty against the accused Kundan Pahan. He surrendered on 14 May 2017.
