Senior Jammu & Kashmir Police Officer DSP Devinder Singh has been arrested along with two Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists Naveed Ahmad Shah alias Naveed Babu and another Rafi Ahmed.
Deputy superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Devinder Singh was arrested while he was travelling with top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Naveed Ahmad Shah alias Naveed Babu and Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists Rafi Ahmed.
They were arrested by DIG South Kashmir Atul Goyal at a police barricade at Mir Bazar in Kulgam of South Kashmir. According to sources, DSP Devinder Singh was absent from duty today and had applied for four days leave from tomorrow.
DSP Devinder Singh was deployed with the anti-hijacking unit at the Srinagar International Airport. He was also involved in several anti-terrorists operations in J&K. DSP Devinder Singh was recruited as a police sub-inspector and with time he rose to the ranks and became the DSP rank officer.
After the arrest of DSP Devinder Singh along with two terrorist, Police carried out raids at Devinder Singh’s residence in Srinagar where 5 grenades and 3 AK-47 rifles were recovered.
According to Police sources, Naveed Babu is a top Hizbul Commander in Kashmir and approx 30 terrorists are operating under him. Naveed Babu was also a former Special Police Official (SPO) of Jammu & Kashmir Police. He was involved in several attacks against Local people and security forces in Kashmir.
DSP Devinder Singh was seen receiving foreign envoys at the Srinagar Airport on 9th Jan. He was seen in a picture with a group of foreign envoys who visited Kashmir on an Official tour.
DSP Devinder Singh’s name had also come in extortion charges when he was in special operation group (SOG) and later he was removed from SOG on complaint about extortion.
Earlier His name was also come up in a letter written by terrorist Afzal Guru from Tihar jail where Afzal claimed the officer (Devinder Singh) had asked him to accompany a parliament attacker Mohammad to Delhi and arrange his stay there. This letter was revealed by Afzal’s family after he was hanged on 9 February, 2013.
