According to the Federal Service for Technical and Military Cooperation (FSTMC), Russia will deliver the first two modified Admiral Grigorovich-class missile-equipped frigates to the Indian Navy by the first half of 2024.
This frigates are being built by the Russia’s Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad.
The intergovernmental agreement for shipping was made last October 2016. The first two ships will be built at Yantar, Russia and two additional frigates will be assembled at India’s state-owned Goa shipyard with technical support from Russia’s United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC). All four ships will be completed by 2026 and will be delivered to the Navy.
Four vessels will be built under this project at a cost of $ 2.5 billion. The Brahmos missile will be attached to this frigates.
Between 2003-13, Russia had built six Talwar-class frigates for Indian Navy. Admiral Grigorovich-class ship is also an upgraded variant of the Talwar-class frigates.
