Subedar Anandan Gunasekaran lost his leg in 2008 at LoC, wins 3 Golds at 7th World Military Games at China

Subedar of Indian Army, Anandan Gunasekaran has won three Gold medals at seventh World Military Games 2019 in Wuhan, China. He is an Indian Para Athlete of Madras Engineering Group & Centre (MEG) Bangalore.

Subedar Anandan Gunasekaran has won gold medals in 100 m, 200 m, and 400-m events. He finished 100m in 12.00 seconds, 200m in 24.31 seconds and 400m in 53.5 seconds and clinched the gold medals in these three events.

He has also qualified for the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 after winning a gold medal in the 200-meter event in Handisport Open Paris 2019.

Subedar Anandan Gunasekaran lost his left leg due to mine blast at the LOC in Kupwara district, Jammu & Kashmir on 4 June, 2008. After this injury, He started his training for athlete in 2012 by taking inspiration from South Africa’s athlete Oscar Pistorius.

In 2015, Indian Army and Paralympic committee of India sent Subedar Anandan Gunasekaran to take part in Sri Lanka Army Para Games, Colombo held in September 2015 where he won gold and silver in the 200 m and 100 m events.

In the same year, Anandan Gunasekaran broke the Asian record in the T-44 category to bag a medal for the Indian Army in the World Para Military Games and became the first Indian para-athlete to achieve this.

The 32 years old Subedar Anandan Gunasekaran belongs to Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu. Defence PRO Bengaluru said, “Subedar Anandan the proud para-athlete of Madras Sappers, has remained devoted and has done the nation proud.”
