Three trained cadres of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen arrested by Assam Police

Assam Police has arrested the three trained cadres of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen from Barpeta district of Assam yesterday. The name of the three cadres of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen are Hafizpur Rehman, Yaqub Ali, Sariful Islam. According to report, Barpeta district police launched operations and arrested the trained Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen cadres from different locations of the district.

According to Barpeta district Superintendent of Police (SP) Robin Kumar, one JMB cadre was arrested from Bhabanipur area and two other JMB cadres were arrested from Kayakuchi area. Assam Police has also recovered one country made revolver and four rounds ammunition in possession from Bhabanipur area.

Barpeta district Superintendent of Police (SP) Robin Kumar said, “We had received information that, three JMB cadres were in the district and launched operation at Bhabanipur area where we had arrested one JMB trained cadre named Hafizur Rahman. We had recovered one country made revolver and four rounds ammunition in possession from him. We had arrested two more JMB trained cadres from different locations in the district and they were identified as Yakub Ali and Sariful Islam,”

Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB) is an Islamic militant organisation operating in Bangladesh.

Police said Hafizur Rahman, who had studied at a madarsa in Barpeta, was the key man in recruiting and training JMB cadres in Assam. He had travelled to Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Kerala several times for recruitment and training purpose of JMB cadres.

The arrested JMB had taken the training from Shakil Ahmad in Barpeta district in 2014. Shakil Ahmed was killed in a blast inside a rented house in West Bengal’s Burdwan in October 2014.

Hafizur Rahman belongs to Karagarhi village in Barpeta. In February 2019, a JMB operative, Abdul Matin was arrested from Kerala. He (Abdul Matin) also belongs to same village of Assam.
