Two Indian Army Soldiers Lost Their Lives In the North Sikkim

An Indian Army officer and a sapper have lost their lives in the Lugnak La avalanche in north Sikkim. Two Army personnel have been identified as Lt Col Robert T.A. and Sapper Sapala Shanmukha Rao.

An avalanche hit an patrolling-cum-snow clearance party in North Sikkim on Thursday. A contingent of 17-18 soldiers came under the grip of Avalanche. Official sources said that these two soldiers were part of the same group which was hit by avalanche.

“A patrolling-cum-snow clearance party came under avalanche in North Sikkim on 14 May. Inspite of the best efforts of the rescue team and local formation an officer, Lieutenant Colonel Robert T A, and Sapper/ OPEM Sapala Shanmukha Rao, who were trapped under ice, lost their lives,” the Army said in a statement.
