The Jammu Kashmir Reorganization Bill 2019 has been approved by President Ram Nath Kovind. Earlier this bill was passed by Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. With the approval of the President, now Jammu and Kashmir has been divided into two parts, and Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have become two new union territories.

Recently during the first session of the 17th Lok Sabha, a bill related to this was passed in both houses of Parliament. Under this, the state of Jammu and Kashmir will be divided into two parts. Jammu and Kashmir has been made a union territory with assembly while Ladakh has been made a union territory without assembly.
According to Press release of Ministry of Home Affairs, Two Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh will come into official existence on Sardar Patel Jayanti on 31st October. This is the best tribute to the Sardar patel who united the whole country.
The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019 with 370 votes in favour and 70 against it while The resolution of abrogation of special status given to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370, was passed in Lok Sabha with 351 members in support and 72 against it while one member abstained.
On 5th August, Rajya Sabha had already passed bill that divides J&K into two union territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh with 125 votes in favour, 61 against.
