UN slams Pakistan and says, Priyanka Chopra retains right to speak in personal capacity

UNICEF good will ambassador Priyanka Chopra is facing criticism in Pakistan for a tweet cheering the Indian armed forces. Pakistan had demanded to remove Priyanka chopra from UN goodwill ambassador this week.

UN has refused Pakistan’s demand to remove Priyanka chopra from UN goodwill ambassador. Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary General said, “When UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors speak in their personal capacity, they retain the right to speak about issues that interest or concern them.”

About UN ambassador role, UN said, “The UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors are prominent individuals who have agreed to generously volunteer their time and their public profile to promote children’s rights.”

Priyanka Chopra had tweeted on feb 26 after Balakot Air strike by Indian Air Force, “Jai Hind Indian Armed Forces” with the emojis of the Indian flag and namaste.

Pakistan’s Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari wrote to UNICEF to remove Priyanka Chopra from UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador accusing her for supporting the Indian armed forces.

A Pakistani woman heckled Priyanka chopra recently and called her “hypocrite” over her pro-army tweet.
